It's a ...

Borg!

OK, it's not a Borg, but doesn't that totally look like a little Borg fetus? Like he's going to grow up to look something like this?

I can't believe I just put that photo on the blog post announcing the gender of our second child. Also, that I just outed myself as a Star Trek geek.

Well, if you're a careful reader, you'll already have figured out that we're having a boy!

Is the small white arrow pointing to the penis really necessary? I mean I've never been one to place any emphasis at all on the size of one's penis (out of necessity, in case you're curious). But look at that thing! It's like an Aztec temple! Seriously, the thing is half way to his knee!

And here's the profile shot of the head, which I think bears some resemblance to Cornelius from Planet of the Apes.

OK, well I couldn't find a profile shot of Cornelius, but you get the picture.

So we're giving birth to a Borg ape with an elephantine penis. Awesome.

All kidding aside though, we're thrilled to be having a boy, if not a little apprehensive. We know how to raise a girl (well, up until the age of 2 and 2 months, at least), but a boy feels like this unknown quantity. And the nephews in both of our families are all ... handfuls? Don't get me wrong, we love them and they're great kids. But ... um, let's just say we're bracing.

That said, we will be making an active effort to raise a well-behaved little boy who listens and respects his parents, just like we did with Anna. He may do it in a different way than Anna (in fact, that's a guarantee), and we'll learn to deal with that and respect it.

And in case anyone's is wondering, no, he won't be circumcised.

UPDATED NOTE: It's been brought to my attention that the second to last paragraph of this blog sounds like it suggests that mine and my wife's siblings didn't and don't make an active effort to do the things I mentioned in that paragraph. That is not the case at all. They're all great parents who are raising great boys. What I meant by the paragraph is that we are going to try not to steer our boy toward any one direction based on the directions that our three nephews have naturally taken with their parent's guiding. In other words, we're going to try to parent our boy as well as our siblings have parented theirs. I understand how it may not read like that and I'll just chalk it up to my temporary(?) inability to convey my thoughts and emotions.

Whoa, congrats! We're raising our own vegan boy over here, although he's only 7 months and some change at this point. It's been a joy. You guys are going to do awesome.

BTW, that is the best freaking ultrasound image I think I have ever seen! Borg is about right. I LOLed!

You outed yourself as an all-around geek, buddy. That "Planet" reference even had me shaking my head. But, it bears this in mind: at some point in the near future, you get to show your son "Star Wars" for the first time.

Seriously? I just got goosebumps.

Congratulations on a very manly boy!
All I know is twin boys from a 3-9...and they're a handful all right. Get ready

To-Fu: Thanks! And I know! Total Borg. It was honestly the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the image. It's even funnier because when Mrs. Piggy was pregnant with Anna people would ask me what I wanted and I would say that I didn't care as long as it wasn't a robot. I didn't know if I could handle a robot child. And here we go. I think I'll name him Locutus (I save the real geeking out for the comment section).

Kris: Yeah, I can't wait to show my son the movie where a father slices off his son's hand and then the son almost kills the father, but then the father saves his son in the end. And I'm serious. I can't wait. Though I do remember as a kid feeling kind of weird watching it. Like guilty that I might some day have to stop my dad from crushing the rebellion or something. I don't know...

Liz: Twins. Damn. Though, you have to be just a bit thankful for not knowing them younger than three.

Diva: Thanks! Yay indeed!

Oh my goodness, a Borg baby! How cute :) As a fellow big Trekkie nerd I'm very excited for you!

Congrats to you & Mrs Piggy, and I'm sure Anna will be a splendid big sister :)

Congratulations! That's great news.

Will you be naming him Cornelius? I think you should - in honor of the ultrasound profile.

I can just see it now.
"Daddy, why am I named Cornelius?" "Well, son..."

Congrats! You'll do just fine with a boy - although having another kid as well behaved as Anna might be asking for a little too much!!!

How exciting! Comparing the Elliott to the little girls his age, I think you may be right about them being more of a handful. They are great fun even if they keep you on your toes. You will have Anna as a good example to her little brother. The ultrasound pictures are great! There is no doubt to the sex of the baby that is for sure.

So, here I am, reading my way through all your blog entries, as I prommised... and this one really made me laugh, you are hilarious! Now that Liam is born, can you confirm he has an elephant penis? ;-))

You say Liam will not be circumcised. I'm very glad to read that. This is a topic that has always grossed me out a bit, to be honest. In Europe, little boys do not get generally circumcised as they do in the US. And I have always wondered - WHY would you painfully cut something away that has a reason to be there - otherwise it wouldn't be there, would it?
I really don't think the "hygiene" reason counts - if you wash yourself regularly, you are clean, and if you don't, you are dirty. No matter if you're circumcised or not.
I suppose it is just a matter of "tradition" - like killing and eating animals, in a way?
